Lesson 4: Printmaking - Roller Stamp

Activity: For this lesson, the teacher choose to do printmaking on a foam sheet of paper, to use to role the paint on, and then stamp in on another piece of paper. First, we would draw our picture on a sheet of paper as big as the foam. Then we would put the foam sheet under the drawing and trace the drawing to transfer it the foam. After we are finished we would take it to the paint and roller. We would apply paint to the foam and then we would press it down on the piece of paper we choose to stamp it on, creating our stamp. We repeated that a couple times. We were then instructed to put it on a piece of paper and write what our print meant to use. I added finger prints to make it interesting and different from the rest of the stamps. The picture is our grain setup on the farm.

Extension Activity: An extension activity would be for 5th graders, instead of using the foam, we would be using a laminate and wood carving to create a stamp with special tools to create more detail. The tool is a sharp tool that you use with different attachments to carve out the picture you desire. First you draw with a pencil and then with a thin sharpie. After you finish you start carving with the special tool. This project would be something about their culture or object they value after a history class about different cultures.
