 Lesson 3: Paper - Weaving

Activity: I had the opportunity to teach this lesson to the students. I decided to do paper weaving with my teaching partner. We choose this project because we could incorporate a little culture with it and show the student about my culture weaving rugs. After talking about cultures the students were able to create a rug with paper. The choose two color of one inch strips and a color to weave the strips in. Marking the side 1 and 2, and the strips A and B, helped the students weave the rug and eliminate confusing while weaving their rug. Then they glued it together to keep it in place. Lastly they would cut the end multiple times to create the frizzle to simulate what rug would look like. The picture are two of the rugs I created to show the students want we wanted them to do.

Extension Activity: A extension activity would be to add pictures to the rug of their hobbies, likes, and items that have value to themselves. This would simulate what the Native Americans did in the past to create a story or who they are, also a history lesson. The 3rd grade student would have a rug that symbolizes who they are by presenting it on their rug they created.
